82% of the UK Population now use the internet (Source Internetworldstats.com) so it stands to reason that each and every business should have an online presence, so that they can be found, as the first thing most people do now when looking for something is “Google it”.

Website design has evolved greatly since the earliest websites seen in 1991 where a basic text based site was to be applauded, to current day where you’re missing out if your website is not optimised for mobile, so it’s essential to make sure that with all the new features available for websites, that your own site is working as hard as possible for you.

What do you use your website for? Is it an online brochure, a marketing tool, a blog or an online shop?  Can it be all of those and more? How can your website generate more interest and revenue for your business?

  • On your Home Page – ensure that you detail the highlights of your business/products and services and the BENEFITS to the reader.
  • On your About Us page – Be sure to promote your business, and again, show what BENEFITS the reader will get as a result of your experience and offering. Too many people do not use this page to maximum advantage, sure it’s hard to blow your own trumpet, but you only have a short time to convince the reader that you’re the right site to do business with.
  • If you’ve not got a blog yet, then it may be time to add one, as not only do they have great SEO benefits, they also demonstrate to your readers that you have experience and credibility in your area of expertise. A customer needs at least 5 touchpoints to your business before really making a decision, so a blog keeps your business in their minds, and lets them learn more about you. If you’ve never blogged before, check out our Tips to help you write your blog.
  • If your business sells products/services, then an online shop will certainly help you generate revenue, as not only does it mean you have a wider audience to sell to, it also means that for those with a busy lifestyle, they have access to your business 24/7. However, if you also produce whitepapers, or have content that people are willing to pay for, then an online shop is also suitable, and one area that you will certainly increase revenues from.
  • An online portfolio is essential to any business where visuals are important, such as graphic/web design/photography or brand management.
  • Testimonials add credibility to your business. If you’ve got great feedback, it makes sense to show this to potential customers, as if they are determining between two businesses with similar offerings, then reviews can help them make their all-important decision.

These are just a selection of ideas to make sure that your website is working as hard as possible for your business.
