Four tips for Content Strategy
Posted by Aaron Brockhurst
Content is king! How many times have you read that with regards to your website or blog recently? Search engines love new content, which is great for SEO, but always keep your content updated to satisfy your website visitors not the search engines. Do what is right for your target audience and you will get the SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) benefits, don’t do it the other way round as it is will show that you are writing for machines, and your readers will move on.
In order to keep your content up to date, firstly, it’s essential to have a website that has a content management system integrated as this will save lots of time (and if you have to go back to your website designer every time that you need a change on your website, it’s not the best use of your resources!) We choose to use Silverstripe as it’s easy to use, even for those website owners who are not very confident with anything technical, it’s secure and it’s great for SEO.
Secondly, you’ll need to create a content calendar. This will help you to create content that is relevant to your website visitor. Determine how often that you want to add new content to your site (it could be a new product that you’re offering, a new service, additions to your Frequently asked questions or an update to your blog), remember the more fresh content that you add to your site, the more reason that your visitors have to return to your site, and the more likely that they will engage with you and your business, the more likely that they will recommend you, and your brand awareness grows.
Now that you’ve determined how often that you’re going to update your content, what should you give your visitors? Be sure to offer them something different from time to time, if you always update posts/articles/content in text form, consider adding a different means. We all like to consume content in different ways, maybe you can demonstrate what you’d like to communicate in images, or podcasts, and video is growing in popularity.
Keep an eye on your website analytics, and always test and measure content. Make notes of what content performed particularly well and determine why, it may be down to the content itself, or it could be the way in which the information was presented, and be sure to keep that in mind each time you develop new content.
