search engine optimisation from Covenant SolutionsGetting found in search engines (Search engine optimisation or SEO) is one of the best ways to attract traffic to your website, but do you know what words your site is currently being found for, and are those words/phrases creating leads for you?

It’s wise to review your keywords frequently, after all, if you’re ranking on page one of Google for certain keyword terms but not getting any enquiries or leads from those keyword terms, then that is not the phrase that your target market are searching for, or your website is not delivering what they have searched for.

As the market place changes, so do keywords, so if you’re not getting the traffic that you need from your website, it’s time to test out some new keywords. Testing and measuring is imperative, as your website is one of the strongest tools that you have for marketing, so if it’s not generating a good return on investment for you, you need to make changes and quickly.

  • Check your Google Analytics to see what keyword terms are bringing visitors to your website. What are the bounce rates for those keyword terms? Are they the terms that you would want your site to be found for? If the bounce rate is 100%, it could mean that term is no longer relevant to your target market, or it could mean that you need to improve content for those keywords. Additionally, the keyword terms that provide the lowest bounce rate are delivering the best results for you, but be sure that that content is working hard to generate leads for your business.
  • Ask impartial friends/colleagues what search terms they might use to find what your website offers. The obvious phrases are often not the ones that your target market will search for.
  • Select keyword terms that have high search volumes, but low competition.
  • Check out websites that are ranking highly for the terms that you want to rank highly for, what can you learn from them?
  • Are your search terms too broad? For example, adding geographical locations or key sectors to keyword terms can help focus your audience and attract the visitors that are more likely to convert into a lead.

These are just a few ideas to analyse and review your website keyword terms.
