3 reasons to optimise your website for mobile browsing

The latest statistics available prove that website design should be optimised for mobile browsing. If you are not sure how your website performs on a smart phone or mobile device, it really is worth testing it as soon as possible as the statistics below reflect:

In 2011, there are 13.9 million mobile internet users in the UK, and it’s forecast that there will be 17.3 million in 2012 and 18.6 million in 2013 (Source: eMarketer, February 2011). As you can see, the biggest growth will come this year - Try accessing your own site from a smartphone – what was your experience like? Did you find all the information that you were looking for? Was it as fast as you would like? There is nothing more frustrating for the end user than not being able to find what they are looking for quickly and easily (and the likelihood is that they will navigate away from your site completely in favour of a site that offers them what they are looking for quickly and easily).

27% of the UK population own a smartphone (Source: KPMG, December 2010). Can you imagine how much traffic your business is missing out on if your website cannot be viewed on a mobile device? What difference could that make to your marketing spend/strategy?

62% of smartphone users have made a purchase within the last 6 months (Source: Adobe, February 2011). That’s a whopping 38.3 million purchases overall in the UK. 19% of UK tablet users (iPad, Samsung Galaxy etc) have made an online purchase using their device (Source: eMarketer, December 2010). Even a tiny share of that revenue will make a huge difference to your bottom line and the overall success of your business if you run an online store or e-commerce site.
